College World Series Heats Up - Game 6 Recap

In this article…

On Monday June 17, Mississippi State Bulldogs won their second game in the double elimination series. A comeback win over the Indiana University Hoosiers  allowed them to make it to the final four of the College World Series. One win in their next two games will put the Bulldogs in the CWS championship series.

Mississippi State got off to a slow start trailing 3-1 heading into the sixth inning, but powered back thanks to big hits that came at the right time. Wes Rea hit a line drive to right field in the sixth and scored one runner, bringing Indiana's lead down to one run.

In the eighth inning, Demarcus Henderson hit a fly ball that dropped and a missed tag at the plate allowed for the game to be tied at 3. Later in the same inning, Trey Porter singled to right center field, and two runs scored putting the Bulldogs up 5-3.

Indiana's Sam Travis hit a long fly ball to left center field, which scored the final Indiana run in the ninth. A ground ball back to Mississippi State's pitcher Jonathan Holder could have ended badly with a poor throw, but first baseman Rea was able to make the play and seal the comeback victory.

Mississippi has off until Friday when they will take on the winner of the Indiana or Oregon State game.

The Bulldogs face a tough schedule ahead of them. Not only do they have to face Indiana or Oregon for a second time Friday (both wins have been close games), but they also have the opportunity to face undefeated UCLA and NC State if they lead in the other half of the bracket.
