Everything from ‘Kinky Boots’ to ‘Matilda the Musical’ took home awards on Broadway’s big night.

2013 Tony Awards Recap and List of Winners

Last night's Tony Awards were surprising and fun, both in the spirit of Broadway. Most importantly however, the awards show was big, as host Neil Patrick Harris so adamantly promised in his ground-sweeping opening number.

The 67th Awards Show returned to Radio City Music Hall this year after spending two years at the Beacon Theatre. The ceremony filled up the space, as well as all of their time. The show did run long, resulting in parts of the ceremony getting cut from the live telecast on CBS.

Some of the biggest winners of the night were Christopher Durang's Chekhov comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, the revival of everyone's favorite musical Pippin, and of course, Cyndi Lauper's Kinky Boots. Matilda: the Musical, considered to be Kinky Boots' biggest competition, also put up quite a fight bringing home four awards for itself, but didn't quite match up to Kinky Boots' and its six wins.

Alongside some great winners, there were also very moving acceptance speeches like Billy Porter's speech while accepting his Tony for Leading Actor in a Musical for his performance in Kinky Boots. Cicely Tyson, after a 30-year Broadway hiatus, also gave quite a moving speech while accepting her Leading Actress in a Play award for her performance in The Trip to Bountiful

Tracy Letts, who took home the award for Leading Actor in a Play for his performance in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolfe?, opted for an alternate route with his speech. Instead of tugging at the heartstrings, Letts made us proud while speaking of his fellow nominees, two of which happened to be Tom Hanks and Nathan Lane saying, "You are not my competition, you are my peers, and I'm proud to be in your company."

Overall, it was an emotional night for Broadway filled with great music, and great talent all around. Check below for a list of the 2013 Tony Award winners.
