You Should Know: The Story of Zach Sobiech

Sometimes good things go viral on the internet.

The Internet is known for cute pictures of animals, funny reaction gifs, and incessantly boring Facebook status updates. However, sometimes the Internet cultivates stories that make you believe that we are much more than useless cat-loving, gif-making, Facebook-complaining beings.

SoulPancake, co-created by Rainn Wilson of The Office, has a YouTube series titled My Last Days where they spotlight people who are suffering from illnesses and document their lives in the wake of these life-changing diseases. As if the premise isn't stirring enough, My Last Days recently told the absolutely awe-inspiring story of Zach Solbiach.

Zach was an 18 year-old high school student who was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma when he was 14. He went through various surgeries and treatments only to find out, about a year ago, that the cancer had spread throughout his body and he didn't have long to live.

After learning of the terminal nature of his disease, Zach decided that instead of succumbing to the sad news, he would live his days to their fullest.

He wrote a song titled "Clouds" as a sort of goodbye to his family members and the song, truly, is beautiful. As part of My Last Days Zach was supposed to film a music video for his song, but, unfortunately they were unable to complete that task.

However, the people at SoulPancake asked their friends to help create a music video. Jason Mraz, Sara Bareilles, The Lumineers, Sarah Silverman, and many other celebrities sent in videos of themselves lip-syncing the song for it's music video.

I urge everyone to watch the video of Zach's story. The way that Zach continued to live his life as normal as anyone else, refusing to accept that he had to stop living because he was dying is incredibly moving.

Watch the video and walk away from it with the message that Zach inspired me and anyone else who has seen the video: "you don't have to find out that you're dying to start living."

Warning: Get the tissues ready because you will cry while watching the video. At the same time, you will be happy that our world was graced with someone as wonderful, happy and truly amazing as Zach Sobiech.

You can purchase Zach's song "Clouds" on iTunes here with all proceeds going to Zach's Osteosarcoma Fund. As of right now, "Clouds" is the number one single on the iTunes charts.

Tragically, Zach Sobiech passed away on May 21 at the age of 18.

R.I.P. Zach
