Saturday Night Sad: Two Cast Members Announce Their Last Seasons

In this article…

Say it ain't so! Two of Saturday Night Live's beloved cast members have announced that this will be their last season with the show.

"Weekend Update" anchor, Seth Meyers has announced that he is moving on to bigger and better things. Meyers will be taking over for Jimmy Fallon on NBC's Late Night as Fallon is set to succeed Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. Both are set to begin their new shows February 24th, during NBC's broadcasting of the Winter Olympics in Russia.

Although Meyers, who is a long time head-writer for SNL and weekly anchor on the "Weekend Update", will be leaving SNL by signing on for Late Night, Meyers will remain under producer Lorne Michaels creative powers.

With all these swaps and take-overs going on, SNL fans are left to wonder who will be taking over for Meyers in the coveted "Weekend Update" chair. Some rumors have been making the rounds saying that since NBC passed on former SNL writer John Mulaney's much-hyped-about sitcom Mulaney he is slated to takeover the "Weekend Update" chair, but nothing has been confirmed.

Another tough blow for "Weekend Update" is the loss of Bill Hader's much-loved nightlife reporter, Stefon. Stefon, to be honest, is one of my favorite characters of all time. Hader has announced that after an eight-year stint on SNL, he will be moving on in his career.

Known for his original and odd sketch characters such as Stefon, and his eccentric celebrity impersonations, Haders departure is a big blow for SNL. Hader also became the only SNL cast member to ever be nominated for the Emmy for "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series" in 2012.

Sad as it is to see these two heralded cast members leave their coveted positions, I am excited to see them both move on to bigger and funnier roles. Hader is slated for a bunch of appearances in various movies in the upcoming months and I am super excited to see Meyers take over for Fallon.

What do you think? Are you sad to see them go? Are you excited for what lies ahead for these two comedic geniuses? Let us know in the comments!
