Chris Hardwick Lands Comedy Central Late Night Show

In this article…

The late-night crowd is getting even more crowded with the latest announced addition to the group. According to Deadline, Chris Hardwick (of The Nerdist, Talking Dead, etc.) will be getting a half-hour show on Comedy Central that will follow The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report

The untitled show, which will launch in the fall, will air four nights a week at midnight, following The Colbert Report, giving the network a 11 PM-12:30 AM block anchored by The Daily Show. Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant will serve as executive producers/showrunners on the Chris Hardwick show, returning to Comedy Central, where they co-created and starred on the cult series Reno 911! The show, Comedy Central's first midnight strip, will be formatted as a comedic panel show that will have a heavy social-media presence integrated throughout.

Hardwick is a more than capable host. His credits include Attack of the Show!, Web Soup, the aforementioned Talking Dead, and the dating show Singled Out with Jenny McCarthy back in the mid-90s. Hardwick is smart, witty and extremely conversational. Those are all strong traits for any late-night, though sometimes Hardwick can sound full of himself/ramble a little bit.

The promising aspect is that the show has Lennon and Ben Garant as executive producers/show runners. I've been fond of the things these guys have been able to do, and I feel like their comedic sensibilities should be able to work well with Hardwick. They are all versatile and should be able to figure out a pretty successful formula.
