City Parks Foundation Releases SummerStage Lineup

Earlier this week, City Parks Foundation announced the schedule for their annual SummerStage series, presented by AT&T. The series will feature over 100 free programs across 17 parks in New York City. Last year, incredible acts like Dawes, Young the Giant, M83 and Alabama Shakes graced the stage. After peering through this year's lineup, things maybe don't look as stacked on the music side, but there is much more variety being offered in the programming.

The biggest names concert-wise usually show up on the list for the benefit shows. This year's performers include Joan Baez with Indigo Girls, She & Him with Camera Obscura, and Ben Howard with Michael Kiwanuka. Some of the highlights for free shows include The Airborne Toxic Event, Flatbush Zombies, the Blue Note Jazz Festival with YASIIN BEY (formerly known as Mos Def), The Zombies with Django Django, and Mac DeMarco.

More comedy is being offered this year in partnership with Comedy Central. Three different shows are on the schedule and will feature comedians like Gabriel Iglesias, Anthony Jeselnik, Jeff Ross, Amy Schumer, Nick Kroll, Jared Logan and more.

More spoken word panels are on the docket, including a new panel discussion called "Forewards" co-curated by The Strand Bookstore. The topics range from The British Invasion of music to the rise in Gypsy culture in America to a discussion of Hip-Hop turning 40. Shows will follow all of these panels.

Theater remains a big part of the SummerStage series, and the newest production to premiere this season is "King Kong," a new take on the love story co-written by Alfred Weiner and Alfred Preisser. The production is hip-hop themed and should prove to be one of the more fascinating events of the whole season.

You can find the entire schedule below (which will automatically update any performer/schedule changes) and start planning out your summer of free events around New York City.
