US Soccer Heads to Final

The US men's national soccer team has advanced to the final of the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

In the semifinal match against Panama today, who thwarted the US squad ten days ago in group play, Clint Dempsey scored a tap-in back door goal in the 76th minute to lift the team to a 1-0 win against the Central Americans.

The goal was sprung off some excellent handling in the US defensive half by Freddy Adu, who then sent Donovan streaking down the right wing with a nice long-ball. Donovan approached the box patiently, and then sent a low cross through a defender's legs, which was tapped in capably with Clint Dempsey's left boot.

Team USA awaits the winner of the Mexico vs. Honduras semi-final match, which is currently scoreless in the late stages.

Get to the final match on June 25th at the Rose Bowl with Charged.fm, as the US seeks its 5th Gold Cup title, and a birth in the Confederations Cup in Brazil in 2013.
