Big names have thrown their hats in to appear in some big-time films.

Casting Call: Matt Damon, Jamie Foxx, Hugh Jackman and More

The last couple of weeks have provided plenty of great casting updates for A-List actors and their upcoming projects.  Let's go through a quick run-down of all the collaborations to expect in 2013 and beyond.

Matt Damon to join Monuments Men

Matt Damon will get his World War II on again in George Clooney's next directorial feature Monuments Men, a WWII drama centered on the men trying to restore and salvage famous works of art that were caught in the middle during the conflict over in Europe.  Damon is just the latest big name attached to this promising film: Clooney will also star in addition to directing, Bill Murray tags along, Daniel Craig, Jean Dujardin, Cate Blanchett, and John Goodman will all appear.  That is a loaded cast that just seems like it will fit together perfectly.  I can't wait to learn more about this one.

Jamie Foxx to take on Spider-Man

Two major casting decisions were made for the upcoming sequel to this year's The Amazing Spider-Man: the role of Harry Osborne will be played by Chronicle actor Dane Dehaan (which I like a lot), and the role of the film's upcoming antagonist Electro will be played by Jamie Foxx.  Earlier, the role of Mary Jane Watson was given to upstart Shailene Woodley ("Secret Life of the American Teenager," The Descendants) but Foxx is the biggest reveal yet.  He is set to appear in the highly-anticipated film Django Unchained on Christmas day.  I can't remember seeing Foxx ever portraying anything close to a villain, so it will be interesting to see what he can do with a role like this.

X-Men get a little retro

Some great news was delivered all the way back in November about some casting updates for the X-Men sequel X-Men: Days of Future's Past.  Because of the time-travel devices employed in this particular arc, that would afford plenty of former mutants to join in on the fun.  It was announced that both Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan would be reprising their roles as Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto, respectively.  Also floating around the rumor mill was the prospect of Hugh Jackman returning to play Wolverine, with the role being a little meatier than his single line in X-Men: First Class.  With many of the principles from the first prequel already in play, Jackman would be an incredible addition to a film that's already generating a lot of buzz.  Some bad-ass Wolverine thrown in can only up the ante.
