The Roc Nation rapper finally releases first single from album

The “Friday Night Lights” mixtape has been on everyone's playlist for a few months now, and everyone has been anticipating the release of the Roc Nation rapper's debut album.

We finally get to hear his first single, “Work Out.” Cole samples fellow label mate Kanye West's “Workout Plan,” and Paula Abdul's 1988 hit single “Straight Up.” He claims the delay on the single was due to West's track and the administration behind it. West gave credit to 5 different writers for the song.

“ When you’re clearing a sample, every writer has to be contacted. So you have to contact each and every one of them and get it cleared, so it’s tougher than the average one. As soon as it clears, we’re puttin’ it out,” said the 26-year-old rapper, who hails from North Carolina.

Cole is currently touring with Rihanna as the opening act for the “Loud” tour. His debut album, “Cole World” is scheduled for release later this summer.
