Harden Drops 37 in Houston Debut

In this article…

James Harden sure showed last night that he can be worth the $80 million Houston spent to lock him in for the next 5 years. Harden had an extremely impressive showing leading the Rockets to a105-96 win over the Detroit Pistons. The reigning sixth man of the year, who is now the man in Houston, dropped 37 points to lead all scorers and passed out 12 assists on top of his scoring outburst. On a night that was originally hyped to be the next chapter of the Linsanity era, the spotlight shined solely on Harden, which is sure to be a memorable Rockets debut for Houston's new centerpiece.

This is the reason Houston went out and jumped on acquiring Harden immediately after finding out he was available. The team was desperate for a number one option. Lacking a go-to scorer, I don't think Houston will have any trouble game in and game out scoring points anymore. Some have speculated how much Harden is really worth. Was he overpaid?  When you look at the company who have put up 37 points, 12 assists, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals (Jordan, Bird, and Wade) in a single game, $80 million may seem a little underwhelming. I believe this is only the beginning for Harden. Being confined to a single role his whole career in Oklahoma City, his game has yet to bloom. Last night may have shown that the young guard's ceiling is yet to be reached. Along with another young promising talent in Jeremy Lin, Houston has a set back court that can grow together to be a lethal duo in the NBA. Fear the beard National Basketball Association. Fear it.
