Jay-Z to Executive Produce NBA 2k13, Lands Big Names For Soundtrack

Despite the ability to import your own tunes into your Playstation or Xbox, the announcement of the official soundtrack for a sports video game is always a nice precursor to the game's release. With NBA 2k13 due out in October, 2K Sports wasted no time creating a mid-summer hype by announcing that Jay-Z will be an executive producer for the game. His first order of business -- the game's music.

Rarely do we see many popular, even legendary artists on a video game soundtrack. However the NBA 2K series has garnered a huge following and reputation as the best basketball video game of all time. It really comes as no surprise that these two powerhouses were able to put together such a phenomenal score, one that will have many players think twice before uploading their own music collections. Jay appears six times on the official tracklisting (below), alongside other hip-hop gods Nas, Mobb Deep, Kanye West, P.Diddy, and Eric. B and Rakim.

While the soundtrack is dominated by hip-hop, Mr. Carter still included his buddies Coldplay and U2 in the mix, as well as the upbeat electro-musicians Phoenix, Daft Punk, and Justice. The man (partly) responsible for bringing the Nets to Brooklyn also threw in some nods to the borough by including funk legend Roy Ayer's track, "We Live in Brooklyn, Baby" on top of one of Brooklyn's best indie rock bands, The Dirty Projectors
