President Obama Sings Justin Bieber

Everyone knows President Barack Obama has basketball skills, but did you know he could sing too? Well kind of…A series of viral videos on YouTube features clips of the President from various speeches, put to music, making it seem as though the president is singing top 40 hits such as “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga and Carly Ray Jepsen’s hit “Call Me Maybe.” 

The series from creator, “Baracksdubs” (@baracksdubs) became an immediate hit six months ago when the video of Obama “singing” Rihanna’s “Cheers (Drink to That)” went viral with over 1,300,000 views. The most popular video, however, is the President singing “Sexy and I Know It” by LMFAO, which garnered almost 14,000,000 views! 

With the newest video, President Obama takes on Bieber Fever with the song “Boyfriend.” It seems America can’t resist seeing their fearless leader say ‘swag’ as the video has received over 2,000,000 views in just one week.

To find out more about these hit videos CHARGED.fm contacted Fadi Saleh, creator of Baracksdubs, to ask her some questions:

Q: What made you decide to make these videos?

A: I started these videos out of pure interest to see if something like this could work. I was in the shower, and the idea just came into my head. After all, what better way to get a song out of your head than make Obama sing it?

Q: What goes into making a video? How long does it take to compile all of those clips?

A: I look through speeches and pick out the words that sound best meshed together. It's deceivingly simple. Takes a few weeks to do and really make it sound enjoyable.

Q: How do you decide what songs to use?

A: I base the songs on viewer comments. I work to my audience, and they get what they want!

Q: How do you feel about having so many videos go viral? Did you ever expect them to blow up like this?

A: I didn't expect the first one, “Drink to That,” to get big, but after seeing that people really liked it, I was encouraged to make one from a more popular song. “Born This Way” was the natural way to go, and it spread like wildfire!

Q: Has president Obama addressed the videos at all?

A: He hasn't, and I'm mad about it.

Q: What can we expect in the future from you? Anything in the works?

A: There's a new video coming out July 16! Stay tuned! And there's even bigger stuff coming over the year!

Q: With the coming election, if there is a change in the administration, can we expect a Romneydubs?

A: I guess we'll have to see. Obama's the rockstar on the web, but expect some Romney action as we get closer to the elections.
