The really Late 2011 Tony Awards Recap

If for some reason your weekend was so kick-ass that you ended up passed out before getting the chance to watch the 2011 Tony Awards, this article is defiantly made for you!  I would hate to think you stumbled through Monday without reading one recap of the winners or YouTubing the amazing performances.

There’s no way you did that right? You’re too smart!

Here’s the chance to redeem yourself from any conversations, texts, tweets or phone calls you ignored missed because of your bad decision of not setting your alarm to catch this year’s Tonys hosted by Neil Patrick Harris. (Because everybody talks about theater all day long.)

Here are the basics you should know about Sunday night.

·          HARRY POTTER: Yes Daniel Radcliff was there but sorry not Hermione and Ron. Daniel and some of the cast from ‘How to succeed in Business without really trying ’, which includes five-time Emmy Award winner John Larroquette, performed “Brotherhood of Men” from the musical.

·          Neil Patrick Harris: This is Neil’s second time hosting the award show.  His first time was in 2009. He opened the show performing "Not Just for Gays Anymore” a song explaining that Broadway was now “beckoning the straights”. It was written by David Javerbaum and Adam Schlesinger of Cry-Baby.

·          Book of Mormon.  With its soundtrack’s recent sell on Amazon this weekend for 1.99, The Book of Mormon has gotten a lot of attention.  Read here all about The South Park writers great success with 9 out of 14 wins.

·          Significant Winners:

War Horse: Best Play, Best Direction

Book of Mormon: Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Direction

Jerusalem: Best Leading Actor in a Play Mark Rylance

Good People: Best Leading Actress in a Play Frances McDormand

Catch Me if you Can: Best Leading Actor in a Musical Norber Leo Butz

Anything Goes: Best Choreography, Best Leading Actress in a Musical: Sutton Foster

Now you should be able to at least look like you know what went on during Sunday’s Tony awards.  If you want to see any of the winners from the ceremony or other theater concerts be sure to get the best seat in the house at charged.fm
