Spears' "Blackout" Gets Her More Attention Than Ever

Britney Spears’ 2007 Blackout album is recognized by Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Spears'

Britney Spears has become one of those singers whose personal life is way more interesting than her music. But honestly, this was always the case. It was just a little harder to ignore her music back in the day when she produced sexy-pop anthems like "Gimme More." But the people at Rock & Roll Hall of Fame seem to be the only ones able to keep out of the gossip columns and exclusively on the music. They've recognized Britney Spear's 2007 Blackout album which features "Gimme More" and "Ooh Ooh Baby" as well as "Piece of Me" and officially added it to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame archives on Wednesday. It can now be accessed in their music library and archives. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has recognized people like Madonna, U2, Elton John and Bob Marley in the past. I never would've thought Britney Spears would even be in any position to be hanging with the greats when a couple years ago she was hanging with Lying Lindsay and DUI Princess Paris Hilton.

But we should've known that Britney was destined for greatness. After all, she was a "mousketeer" as a kid and everyone knows that Disney really knows how to pick 'em. She released "Hit Me Baby One More Time" in 1998 and followed it with hit after hit.  But Brit took a wrong turn when she played in the 2002 film Crossroads (What?) and then again when she broke up with the best thing that ever happened to her, Justin Timberlake. And yet again when she got hitched "one night in Vegas style." As you all know, the worst is yet to come. Unfortunately Brit decided to get married for real this time, Kevin Federline and as expected (and wished), they eventually split. The paparazzi had a ball with post-divorce Britney who had a cleaner head than Amber Rose and looked nothing like the Britney we remembered in that sexy school girl getup.

She somehow got it together and created the masterpiece that is Blackout. The album is hailed as, according to Perez Hilton, "the most influential pop album of the past five years." It has sold over a million copies and its featured songs have held competitive position on music charts. "Gimme More" proven to be Blackout's hit song, reaching a peak position of #3 on Billboard's Top 100. I'm so proud of Britney Spears and happy that something positive is associated with her name these days. Blackout is Britney's only album to be recognized by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It is only fair of us to ask then, Britney, that you please give us more pop and less gossip.
