Ochocinco lands in Miami, MJD is a no-show and more from around the league.

NFL News Wrap-Up

The NFL had a busy start to the week as many teams began to prepare for next season.  Players are starting to arrive for mini-camps, and others aren't, leaving many rosters in flux as the offseason has slowly come to an end.  Here are a few of the storylines that have emerged over the past 24 hours.

Chad Ochocinco returns home, signs with 'Fins

After being released by the Patriots last Thursday, it took only four days for the 34 year-old receiver to find a new home, his previous home in fact.  The South Beach native agreed to a 1-year deal with the Dolphins Monday, and joins a team that finds itself incredibly thin at the wide receiver position after trading Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall to the Chicago Bears during the off-season.  Though coming off an incredibly disappointing season with New England, the six-time Pro Bowler figures to be a step up from Miami's current receiving core, providing an experienced set of hands that should become even more valuable once rookie Ryan Tannehill assumes the starting quarterback position.

Maurice Jones-Drew Plans to Skip Mandatory Jaguars Minicamp

In what's been going on for sometime now, the Jaguars and Maurice Jone-Drew have yet again been unable to resolve their differences when it comes to the star running back's contract.  In protest, Jones-Drew has elected to to sit out of the team's three day minicamp, a move that could cost the 27 year-old UCLA product $60,000.  In a time when running backs usually don't last long, Jones-Drew is looking to get paid now while his stock is still at its highest, but judging by Jaguars GM Gene Smith's view on the matter, it may be a while before the three time Pro Bowler rejoins his teammates.

Giants re-sign DT Rocky Bernard, Cut TE Jake Ballard?

Coming off a season in which he emerged out of nowhere with 38 receptions 605 receiving yards, Super Bowl starter Jake Ballard was waived Monday after failing a physical with the team.  Ballard sustained a torn ACL during last February's Super Bowl victory over the Patriots and is still recovering from the microfracture knee surgery he had done later that month.  Should he clear waivers though, it is expected that Ballard would return to the Giants despite the fact that he would probably be placed on injured reserve and miss the entire 2012 season.

Update: It looks like Ballard won't be back with New York, as he was just scooped up by the New England Patriots.

To fill Ballard's roster spot, the Giants re-signed DT Rocky Bernard who adds much needed depth at the position while Chris Canty, Linval Joseph, and Shaun Rogers all continue to recover from injury.

Veteran Receiver Derrick Mason Retires as a Baltimore Raven

Despite making a name for himself in Tennessee, the 38-year-old receiver said that his 'heart' remained in Baltimore after six years with the team, the last of which was in 2010.  Mason announced at press conference with the club yesterday that his time in the NFL has come to an end after a solid 15-year career with four different teams.  Though never really considered one of the game's best receivers, Mason was one of the league's steadiest, recording five straight 1,000-yard seasons beginning with Tennessee in 2001, and then three more from 2007-09 as a member of the Ravens.  Last season surely didn't turn out how Mason expected it to, leaving the Jets for Houston mid-season.  In any case, Mason's legacy is still at hand as one of the game's toughest and most respected.
