Comedian Tommy Chong Fights Cancer with Cannabis

Tommy Chong, one half of the comedy duo Cheech and Chong, revealed to CNN in an interview that he has prostate cancer. He first noticed the symptoms while incarcerated on drug charges, but was only diagnosed recently. Chong, 74, is outspoken about his use of marijuana, and argues that the drug's medicinal purposes is yet another reason why marijuana should be decriminalized.

"I'm treating [the cancer] with hemp oil, with cannabis," Chong told CNN's Don Lemon, "[Legalizing marijuana] means a lot more to me than just be able to smoke a joint without being arrested." Chong revealed that the cancer is stage one, and began having prostate problems after being drug-free for three years.

Chong and comedy partner Cheech Marin recorded several hit comedy albums in the early 1970s. They made their big screen debut with 1978's "Up in Smoke," which would be the first in a series of "Cheech and Chong" films following their drug-fueled misadventures. The pair continue to tour, and have multiple shows lined up for this summer and the fall. Chong has also appeared in the likes of FOX's "That 70s Show" as well as authoring books such as "The I Chong: Meditations from the Joint", which chronicles his drug-related prison time and his specialty in handmade bong crafting.

Chong no longer smokes marijuana because of "health reasons", but instead has taken to ingesting hemp oil for problems with "wooziness" and other issues related to his prostate cancer.
