The Book of Mormon swept the Tony Awards last year. Whose turn is it now?

Tony Awards 2012 Predictions

The 66th Annual Tony Awards is Sunday, June 10 at 8pm on CBS.  If you don't watch it, you'll be missing the chance to see incredible musical numbers from critically acclaimed Broadway shows for free!

Neil Patrick Harris is once again host of the Tony Awards, where performances will be given from productions The Book of Mormon (winner of 9 Tony Awards last year), Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Newsies, Once, One Man, Two Guvnors and more.

There are 31 categories in which a Tony can be awarded, so I'm going to trim it down to the categories people usually ask about (No offense to the scene, sound, costume and lighting designers. I'm sure you all did a lovely job.), and put my predictions in bold. You'll have to watch the show to see the special awards and crying.

Here are the nominees for:

Best Play
Clybourne Park  by Bruce Norris
Other Desert Cities  by Jon Robin Baitz
Peter and the Starcatcher  by Rick Elice
Venus in Fur  by David Ives

Best Musical
Leap of Faith
Nice Work If You Can Get It

Best Original Score (Music And/Or Lyrics) Written For The Theatre
Bonnie and Clyde  Music by Frank Wildhorn and Lyrics by Don Black
Newsies  Music by Alan Menken and Lyrics by Jack Feldman
One Man, Two Guvnors  Music and Lyrics by Grant Olding
Peter and the Starcatcher   Music by Wayne Barker and Lyrics by Rick Elice

Best Revival of a Play
Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman
Gore Vidal's The Best Man
Master Class

Best Revival of a Musical
The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess
Jesus Christ Superstar

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play
James Corden in One Man, Two Guvnors
Philip Seymour Hoffman in Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman
James Earl Jones in Gore Vidal's The Best Man
Frank Langella in Man and Boy
John Lithgow in The Columnist

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play
Nina Arianda in Venus in Fur
Tracie Bennett in End of the Rainbow
Stockard Channing in Other Desert Cities
Linda Lavin in The Lyons
Cynthia Nixon in Wit

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical
Danny Burstein in Follies
Jeremy Jordan in Newsies
Steve Kazee in Once
Norm Lewis in The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess
Ron Raines in Follies

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical
Jan Maxwell in Follies
Audra McDonald in The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess
Cristin Milioti in Once
Kelli O'Hara in Nice Work If You Can Get It
Laura Osnes in Bonnie and Clyde

Best Choreography
Rob Ashford for Evita
Christopher Gattelli for Newsies
Steven Hoggett for Once
Kathleen Marshall for Nice Work If You Can Get It

I don't know if you noticed, but I'm putting my money (just kidding, I don't have money) on Newsies and Follies, based on a very controlled and calculated system I created, which definitely wasn't just closing my eyes and poking the screen.

Best of luck to all of the productions in the running.  Try to shoot for 10 Tony Awards, which is enough to beat The Book of Mormon, but few enough not to look as pretentious as The Producers, which won 12 Tony Awards in 2001.
