Gotye comes to NYC this September

As part of his ambitious North American Tour, Gotye will perform two shows in New York this fall. The first show will be at Radio City Music Hall September 25. Special guests at Radio City include Australian songwriter Missy Higgins and South African instrumentalist Jonti. The second show takes place in Williamsburg Park September 27 with the Givers and Zammuto also performing.

Gotye is the first Australian to have a number one single in the United States in over a decade. His song, Somebody That I Used to Know, has held the top spot on the billboard charts for an impressive eight weeks. It has sold over 500,000 copies in the U.S. and more than one million globally. So far, the single's youtube video has accumulated 243 million hits.

Somebody (feat. Kimbra) is a song about a painful breakup. It is a simplistic instrumental piece with a touch of dub. When I first heard Somebody on the radio, I thought it was a track by the police. Gotye's choir-like vocals in the chorus certainly can be compared to Sting. I think what makes the single so successful is its simplicity and accessible narrative. That simplicity should translate well into a live show.
