Chad Ochocinco's unsuccessful campaign in New England is about to come to an end. According to NFL Analyst Adam Schefter the Patriots plan to release Ochocinco after failed trade attempts. The Boston Globe reports that Ochocinco left the Patriots' OTA today “in a hurry.”
Ochocinco was a disappointment to say the least in New England as his 15 receptions for 276 yards and a touchdown in 2011 headlined his worst statistical year since he was a rookie in 2001. The drop in production was surprising, especially considering the 67 catches for 831 yards he accumulated the year before the acquisition. Many reasons have been thrown out for the decline: he couldn't get a grasp of the playbook, he couldn't find a rhythm with Tom Brady, he lost a step. The only one that knows this is Ochocinco, and maybe he is just a better fit somewhere else, if another team is willing to take a chance on him.
