Clay AND CK? Yay? Nay?

Comedians Louis C.K., Andrew Dice Clay Join New Woody Allen Film

Annie Hall director Woody Allen has finalized the cast of his latest, untitled film with the additions of standup comics Louis C.K. and Andrew Dice Clay. Louis C.K. has been winning the hearts of critics and audiences alike with his FX series Louie (the third season premieres June 28), which has invited comparisons to Allen’s own work. He was also recently named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People.

Clay, on the other hand, once known for his crude, controversial comedic style that kept him banned from MTV airwaves for over 20 years, has seen his career slow down—he was last seen on HBO’s Entourage and FOX’s Raising Hope. Either way, working with Allen is certainly prestigious, and the right step in direction for most people’s careers…usually. Still, it is a bit of a peculiar choice.

Woody Allen announced today the cast of his latest untitled film. Starring, in alphabetical order, are Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchett, Louis C.K., Bobby Cannavale, Andrew Dice Clay, Michael Emerson, Sally Hawkins and Peter Sarsgaard. Co-stars include Max Casella and Alden Ehrenreich. It is a Gravier Productions film produced by Allen’s long time producers, Letty Aronson and Stephen Tenenbaum.

The new film will be shot in New York and San Francisco this summer. This marks Allen’s second time directing in San Francisco — his directorial debut, 1969’s TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN, was also set there.

Details about the plot have not yet been revealed, but the cast sounds phenomenal. Allen has been reliable in his risky but inventive casting choices.  It will also be nice to see Allen return once again to the states after his “European vacation”. Until then, his next film, To Rome With Love, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Ellen Page, will have to do for now. That one opens on June 22.
