NY Mets and Jon Niese Avoid Major Heartbreak

Mets fans can finally let out a sigh of relief.  After undergoing examinations with team doctors, it was determined that Jon Niese has no major heart conditions and shouldn't miss any of his scheduled starts.  Instead, Niese has elected to undergo a minor heart procedure called an ablation during the All-Star break next month to correct the condition.

During his start Sunday against St. Louis, Niese was pulled after posting ten strikeouts over six shutout innings due to a rapid heart beat.  This isn't the first time Niese has had issues with his heart either. Niese also experienced similar symptoms last season in a game against Texas.  The lack of any serious injury or medical condition comes as a great relief to Mets fans as Niese has had trouble avoiding major injuries thus far in his young career.

In 2009, Niese had a complete tear of his hamstring tendon which resulted in season ending injury, and then again last season Niese sustained a rib cage injury that saw him land on the DL for the rest of the year.  If Niese is to become a building block of the Mets future like they expect him to, then Niese's durability must improve as his career progresses.

As of now, Niese is expected to make his next start Sunday when the Mets take on their crosstown rivals the New York Yankees in Yankee Stadium.
