Southern Baptist Sissies, by playwright and director Del Shores, originally opened in Los Angeles at the start of the millenium and became the most awarded play of 2000. Famed by influential institutions, such as GLAAD Media Awards, Los Angeles Critics Awards, and Ovation Awards, New Yorkers will experience Del Shores' script and storytelling in Gotham for the first time.
Paying tribute to the prestigious playwright, BrainSpunk Theatre is proud to debut Southern Baptist Sissies, under the direction of Elmer King.
“Shores productions continually combine hilarity and disparity in a unique way that always allows for a compelling message to be imparted,” said director Elmer King. “Through our New York debut, we hope to cultivate a new following for Del Shores story-telling.”
Recount the renowned rite of passage and perseverance of four young, gay men who prevail against cultural constructs, looking for love and acceptance. Southern Baptist Sissies is a story about religion, sexuality, and the ever-present struggle to find solace.
Southern Baptist Sissies opens on May 11, 2012 and will show for 11 performances only at the June Havoc Theatre at Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex, located at 312 West 36th street.
