2012 New York Mets Opening Day: A Fan's View

by Photo of Andrew Lontos

Johan Santana pitched well and David Wright drove in the only run of the game as the Mets won 1-0.

Ah, that delusional feeling you can only get after Game 1 of a 162-game season, when your team with no expectations finds themselves in first place. The Mets haven't lost. The Braves haven't won. Neither have the Yankees, for that matter. David Wright had a clutch hit and Johan Santana's ERA and MRIs = 0 in the 1-0 win over the Braves. Life is good, I tell ya.

Sure, even on this beautiful, victorious afternoon in Flushing there were signs of the same old Mets. Our newly-acquired leadoff hitter is on the DL, New York left 8 men on base (1-9 with RISP), and there was some deception with the attendance numbers. When you add in little things like some ticket scanners and hand dryers didn't work on Opening-Freaking-Day, you realize that this franchise really is in trouble, the owners are broke, and there's a long way to go.

But we're not focusing on that today. Yesterday went as well as it possibly could and I'm riding the positive wave as long as possible. It may not last very long, so I suggest you hop on while you still can.

Let CHARGED.fm get you the best seats to see the Mets at Citi Field.

Here's the final out:
