New York Rangers Zuccarello Out Indefinitely

In this article…

After being hit in the head by a puck during the first period of Saturday night's clincher against the Pittsburgh Penguins, it appears that New York Rangers wing Mats Zuccarello will be out indefinitely. His status and return date have not yet been confirmed.

A penalty killer with versatility easily describes Zuccarello, who was hit in the head with a shot by teammate, Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh. Immediately, Zuccarello skated to the bench, made his way to the locker room and did not return for the remainder of the game that went into overtime.

For most of the season, the right wing played on the team's top line. Zuccarello racked up two assists in the five games played against the Penguins and had 15 goals for 49 points in the regular season.

The Rangers just advanced to round two and remain optimistic that defenseman Kevin Klein will be back in time for the start of the series. Klein has been out since March 11th with a broken left forearm.

Depending on the length of Zuccarello's absence, the Rangers' depth will be put to the test against the Washington Capitals, their second round opponent.
