Newest 'Ant-Man' Trailer Proves Size Doesn't Matter

Paul Rudd gets microscopic in the insane-looking Marvel clip.

Ant-Man seems like a difficult property to translate to the big screen, but it looks like Marvel may have been able to pull it off based on the newest full-length trailer. We get our first full glimpse of Paul Rudd in action as Scott Lang, and the characters of Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll and Michael Douglas are also fleshed out here.

In the trailer, Hank Pym (Douglas) recruits con-man Lang to help him protect his super suit that allows the wearer to shrink in scale but increase in strength. Darren Cross (Stoll) wants to weaponize the suits and create an army of super soldiers the size of insects. But Pym worries that the consequences would be dire. It's up to Lang and Pym to stop Cross by stealing back what he already has.

The size-changing sequences used throughout the trailer look pretty amazing. Ingenuity is a must when you're trying to convey just what it is Ant-Man and his villain, Yellowjacket, are capable of, even at minuscule sizes. The trailer also shows a little bit of self-awareness. Rudd's dry wit and sarcasm are employed in certain parts of the clip, and if the film can hover between Guardians of the Galaxy and Iron-Man in terms of tone, they will have done a great job.

While the brief clip is visually striking, I still would have loved to see what Edgar Wright could have done as director. Either way, it's hard to bet against Marvel at this point, and as improbable as an Ant-Man movie is they likely have another winner here. Ant-Man hits theaters on July 17, 2015.
