Wale Debuts Video For 'The Girls on Drugs'

In this article…

Wale gets inspirational and therapeutic in his latest dramatic video for the song “The Girls on Drugs” off his latest LP, The Album About Nothing.

The song samples Janet Jackson’s “Go Deep.” Wale uses the chorus to hint at the insecurities and depression we all face and how one common way to cover it is through drug use. In this song, the message is directed towards women, and the video portrays this ideology quite well.

The video is basically about some women who seem to be just having some “fun” by going to the gym, then pre-gaming with weed, alcohol and pills (taking selfies the entire time) before heading out to a party with Wale. Wale tries to take one of the girls home, but the girl ends up in the bathroom throwing up. Wale then tries to talk to the girl about her insecurities and asks her, “What’s really wrong with you? What I see right now, I see a little girl; scared, sad, confused, don't know what to do, that live for Instagram likes and H&M sales” to which the girl replies, “I didn’t want you to see me like this,” before running off and leaving him alone.

The video is quite deep and most definitely touches on a recurring theme present in Wale’s music — insecurities amongst women in this generation.
